What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Redeemer Lutheran Church | Thief River Falls, MN based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy - the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Revelation

God has revealed God's self to us through  the Son, Jesus Christ, begotten in eternity, who is the visible image of the invisible God and revealed in person, in scripture, and in proclaim in all of creation. Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit and of Mary, and emptied himself to become like us - to reconcile us again with God.  Jesus was crucified and raised again - and ascended into the heavens  but remains present with us through the Spirit. We receive the gift eternal life as we as follow Jesus by faith.

Holy Spirit

We believe that we cannot - by our own understanding or strength - believe in Jesus Christ or come to him - except that the Holy Spirit has called us through the Gospel, enlightens us with gifts and works in us to sanctify us - making us more and more into the image and likeness of Jesus Christ. In the same way, the Holy Spirit calls, gathers, enlightens and makes holy the whole Christian church on earth and keeps us united with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.

The Fall

When Creation was formed, God saw that it was good - and human beings  - whom God created to be is special relationship with God were "very God. However, when Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God, turned in on their own wants and desires. This broke the bonds of love and trust with God, their Creator. Jesus came to restore that relationship and unite us again in God ' goodness and love.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ - ambassadors of reconciliation with God and others through Jesus Christ.

Ressurection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.
